By Border Queen Harvest Hub
We’re excited to welcome several new members to the Border Queen Harvest Hub this month—each one bringing their own unique story, passion, and flavor to our growing community of local producers and makers.
From baked goods to fresh berries, from handcrafted spirits to freeze-dried produce—this season’s new additions reflect the heart of what BQHH is all about: local pride, sustainable food, and strong community connections.
Meet Barbara “Princess” Ross – Mayfield
I had the pleasure of visiting Barbara “Princess” Ross and her husband, Jim, and discovered that their farm is bursting with life. What started with eggs has grown into so much more: free-range chickens, a thriving garden with carrots, greens, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, onions, and beets, plus honeybee hives and a young apple orchard. Their story is one of resilience, resourcefulness, and deep community connection.
Nate Ross-Mayfield
Nate is our youngest entrepreneur with his business-Prairie Root Egg farm! Swing by their farm on Highway 49 and pick up some farm fresh eggs!
The Beesley Family – Conway Springs
What began as a 10-year-old Gavin Beesley’s wish to join 4-H and raise goats has become a thriving, joyful family farm. Frank and Sheila Beesley, proud K-State alumni, now run a goat-filled homestead full of love, grit, and heart. Their story is a testament to saying "yes" to dreams—and watching them grow.
Sweet Berries and Brambles – Harper
Just 3 miles north of Harper, Joel and Leslie Gerber have turned six acres into a berry lover’s paradise. This fourth-generation family farm offers blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries and invites visitors to slow down and enjoy the pick-your-own experience. Whether you’re coming from Wichita or Anthony, it’s worth the trip!
Steffen’s Orchard – Conway Springs
We’re in the heart of peach season, and Steffen’s Orchard has some of the juiciest peaches around! At just $2.40/lb (containers provided!), it’s the perfect time to stop by and support this long-standing family farm. Apples will be coming soon for fall!
Wanda Whaley – Cakes for All Occasions – Caldwell
A local favorite, Wanda’s cakes are both beautiful and delicious—perfect for birthdays, weddings, and every sweet celebration in between. Her creations are crafted with care and always made to impress.
Brandi Dvorak – Kidz Cakes – Caldwell
If your child can dream it, Brandi can bake it! Specializing in custom cakes for kids, Brandi brings energy and creativity to every cake she makes—no matter the theme. From princesses to dinosaurs, Kidz Cakes by Brandi Dvorak is here to make your child’s day extra sweet!
Grandy’s Goodies by Randy Furber – Ponca City, Ok
At Sunny Creek Trading Post, you’ll find Grandy’s Goodies, a one-of-a-kind collection of local products made by Randy Furber (aka “Grandy”). From veggies and flour to freeze-dried fruits and tinctures, Randy offers a wholesome, health-focused lineup of goodies rooted in tradition and love.
KK’s Creations by Kirstan Wiley – East of Caldwell
After retiring from teaching, Kirstan Wiley dove into baking—and we’re all better for it! Her sourdough bread and pretzel bites are already a hit, and she’s just getting started. She’s also exploring gardening and building a chicken coop, so keep an eye out for fresh produce and eggs possibly coming in the future!
Bluff Creek Distillery & 18 Acres Lounge – Downtown Caldwell
Welcome to the first-ever micro distillery in Caldwell! Tracie and Nick Mayo have created Bluff Creek Distillery & 18 Acres Lounge, a cozy space offering locally made whiskey blends and beer, with nearly everything sourced right here in Caldwell—from the corn in the mash to the wood in the bar. It’s a bold new chapter for local business and a toast to our region’s craftsmanship and flavor.
Mayfield Grocery and Locker – Downtown Mayfield
We're excited to welcome Mayfield Grocery and Locker to the Border Queen Harvest Hub! Located in the heart of downtown Mayfield, this charming little grocery store is a true local gem—well known for its fresh Kansas meats and friendly, down-home service.
Owners Steve and Jamie proudly carry on the legacy started by Steve’s father, continuing a tradition of quality and community. Whether you're picking up premium cuts or just stopping by for a friendly chat, you're sure to feel right at home.
Stop in and support a business that’s been feeding Sumner County for generations!
