We are excited to welcome Burgess Beef LLC of Wellington, Kansas, to the Border Queen Harvest Hub!
Leroy Burgess raises Black Angus and Red Angus cattle on his farm near Wellington Lake, and he saw an opportunity to help his community enjoy fresh, high-quality beef at prices comparable to what you might find at Dillons or Walmart. His goal is simple: he wants everyone to have access to good, healthy food without breaking the bank.
You can now shop for Burgess Beef at their store located at 1014 W. 8th Street in Wellington, Kansas, where you'll currently find locally raised beef and honey!
But there's even more to this story! Leroy envisions growing the store into a rural grocery destination featuring products from local vendors — everything from honey, jams and jellies, and fresh bread to locally raised beef and other homegrown or homemade foods. What a wonderful opportunity to bring local producers and consumers together!
Helping make this vision happen is Tishya Brown, a longtime friend of the Burgess family who found herself in just the right place at just the right time to help run the store. Tishya also has a family connection to local food and agriculture. Her father-in-law, JD Brown, owned Brown's Processing, a local business known for processing deer.
And we have to share one of our favorite moments from visiting the store! While Tishya and I were talking on the phone with Leroy, we could actually hear his cattle mooing in the background! Now THAT'S what we call farm-to-table authenticity!
At the Border Queen Harvest Hub, we believe that when we support local farmers and producers, we strengthen our entire community. Leroy and Tishya share that same passion, and we're thrilled to help spread the word about what they're building.
