In 2024, Sunny Creek Trading Post in Ponca City, Oklahoma, was gifted retail space in City Central for six months through the 2024 Champion Under My Wing Academy. That opportunity helped lay the groundwork for something even bigger.
This week, they officially opened their new Farm Hub local grocery store at 317 E. Grand Ave.
Now home to more than 70 vendors, the store proudly features local producers — including Border Queen Harvest Hub members such as French Farms Creamery, Bachman Family Farms, and Grandy’s Goodies.
On February 11th, I had the opportunity to visit the new location and meet with Valerie Nelson and Liz Threlkeld. The store is absolutely beautiful and thoughtfully organized. Their expanded space allows them to carry more products than ever before — from natural remedies and freeze-dried fruits to jams and jellies, locally raised beef, fresh eggs, and so much more.
The passion Valerie and Liz have for supporting local producers is evident the moment you walk through the doors. Their commitment to creating a space where farmers, food makers, and customers connect is inspiring.
The City of Ponca City’s participation in the Main Street America program played an important role in helping them design and organize their new storefront. While the ladies shared how grateful they were for their time in the City Central location, this new space places them directly in the retail district, increasing visibility and accessibility for the community.
Sunny Creek Trading Post is a wonderful example of what can happen when communities rally behind local food and local entrepreneurs.
If you’re in Ponca City, be sure to stop by and see all they have to offer! Thursday, Feb 12, at 4:30, they will be having their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new location!
