Tucked away in the quiet community of Rock, Kansas, Annie’s Country Store is more than a place to shop—it’s a heartfelt expression of family, heritage, and the simple joys of rural life. Owners Heather and Jeremy Braungardt have built something truly special on land that has been in the Braungardt family since the 1800s. For Jeremy, this land has always been part of his story. As a young boy, he dreamed of building his home there, and in 2012, that dream became reality.
While Jeremy and the couple’s four children provide the strength and sweat behind the scenes, the creative spirit of Annie’s belongs to Heather. A dance and gymnastics teacher three days a week—a legacy business her mother started—Heather is no stranger to juggling roles. She also landscapes twice weekly and takes over 200 bakery items to the Wichita Market on Mosley Street each week.
The idea for Annie’s Country Store took root during a difficult chapter. Heather’s mother passed away in 2011, a loss that weighed heavily on her. In working through her grief, she felt a strong calling to build something meaningful—something that honored her roots and gave others a place to slow down and reconnect. As a child, Heather was a dancer, a tumbler, and often took the stage as Little Orphan Annie. Her mother nicknamed her, “Annie”. It felt only right that the store should carry that name.
By the time COVID swept across the country, the vision for Annie’s had become even more important. Heather imagined a place where people could step away from the noise, sip a warm cup of cider, visit with neighbors, browse thoughtful goods, and enjoy the comfort of simplicity.
Annie’s Country Store now offers an impressive array of items—handmade goods, vintage treasures, glassware, refurbished furniture, local produce, bakery items, honey, jellies, and more. Everything in the bakery is made from ingredients grown right on the Braungardt land. Heather even harvests grapes from her own small vineyard to make her signature jelly. With fruit trees, a pumpkin patch, and flourishing produce gardens, the Braungardts embody what it means to know where your food comes from—a core value shared by the Border Queen Harvest Hub.
What you find at Annie’s isn’t mass-produced. It’s local, intentional, and unmistakably Kansas.
