We were honored to welcome Roger Thurow and his wife, Ann, to Caldwell as they traveled for two weeks celebrating the release of Roger’s newest book, Abiding Hunger.
Roger first visited our area last summer, when he spent time interviewing local farmers, visiting Hagers Acres and talking with Kimmy, and exploring the Border Queen Commercial Kitchen. During that visit, he learned about the work of the Border Queen Harvest Hub and the important role local food systems play in connecting producers with consumers.
We are incredibly proud that Shop Kansas Farms, the Border Queen Harvest Hub, and Hagers Acres are featured in Chapter 6 of Abiding Hunger! What an honor to have our community and the work of our local producers included in a book that helps tell the story of hunger in America.
On Thursday, October 22, the Caldwell Library hosted a book signing, giving our community the opportunity to meet Roger and celebrate his new book. Following the event, Roger and Ann enjoyed dinner and entertainment at our local distillery and spent the evening at the KanOkla Upstairs Downtown venue before continuing their journey home.
We are also grateful that Roger’s books are available at Hagers Acres and our local library, making his important message accessible to our community.
Thank you, Roger, for the work you do to help us better understand hunger in the United States. Your willingness to listen to farmers, visit communities, and share their stories reminds us why strengthening our local food systems matters.
We are proud to be part of this story!
